Between theory and practice – foreign language teacher students’ cognition of oral proficiency and grammar teaching in Sweden

The present study explores patterns of cognition among 14 foreign language (FL) teacher students in Sweden regarding teaching oral proficiency and grammar in French German, Italian and Spanish. It is based on reflective cumulative log texts written by the students during a theoretical course in FL pedagogy. The log texts were investigated using qualitative content analysis to uncover central themes and patterns of agency. Multimodale Analyse von Interaktion im fremdsprachlichen Klassenzimmer

The article offers a contribution to the interaction research in the foreign language teaching and learning. It starts with an overview of various research approaches to the foreign language teaching and learning, from the 60s to the present days. A multimodal analysis of an excerpt of videorecorded classroom interaction is then provided. The analysis is focused on several aspects of classroom participation and teaching sequences. Some implications of the present research for teachers' training are finally provided.

Musical experiences in learning English as a foreign language

Musiikki on osa ennen kaikkea arkipäivän elämää, mutta käytössä toisinaan myös kielten oppitunneilla. Kielen oppimisen tutkimuksessa musiikkiin ei kuitenkaan toistaiseksi ole kiinnitetty paljonkaan huomiota. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää millaisia kokemuksia ja ajatuksia englannin oppijoilla on kielen oppimisesta musiikin kautta ja siten tarjota näkökulmia musiikin roolista vieraan kielen oppimisessa.
